Richard Pelc Obituary

Richard Albert "RICK" Pelc

After a bravely fought year long battle with cancer, Richard Albert Pelc, age 74, was called home on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Rick was the son of the late Richard Alvin Pelc and the late Rosemarie (Tysarczyk) Pelc, both of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Michael Randall "Randy" Pelc. He is survived by younger sister, Pamela (Pelc) Simms (Joseph Simms) of Peoria, Arizona, also his niece Tracy (Filardi) Tims and his nephew, Anthony Filardi. Rick is also survived by the light of his life--his beloved son, Evan P. Pelc, now of Cleveland, OH. and his beautiful granddaughter Liliana; he is also survived by his ex-wife AND friend (yes, one can be both!) Denise (Zern) Serbin (David Serbin) of Pittsburgh, PA; Rick graduated from Allegheny High School in 1967 and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay in South Vietnam and was a troubleshooter for F4 Fighter Planes on the military base; Rick loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He especially loved doing these activities with his son Evan. His favorite thing in the world was fishing a local river or stream with his son Evan and their beloved dog, Barkley. Everyone that knew Rick knew he was also a Major Pittsburgh Pirates fan, his love & support for the Bucs was unwavering. Rick loved playing his clarinet and was quite accomplished. He also loved telling jokes, and always had one at the ready whenever he greeted you. To bring a smile or laugh to everyone he met brought him the greatest joy....We are sure that he's in heaven now telling those same old jokes! Family and friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the HUGHES FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1501 Lowrie Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212-Troy Hill.
